License Requirements
Once you have completed the practical nursing program in Kansas, you will have to take one more step to start serving the people as an LPN. It is mandatory to pass the NCLEX-PN test and obtain the licensure. If you fail to qualify the examination, then you have to reappear for it. Unless you pass the licensure test, you will not be allowed to work in a professional space.
Kansas Board of Nursing requires the candidates to submit two applications- one to the Kansas Board and another to the company that conducts NCLEX-PN course. The cost of the application and exam is $250. Along with the application, individual must submit passport size photograph and fingerprints report. If the candidate is unable to pass the test within two years of graduation, then s/he has to make a petition to take the test.
Out-of-State LPNs
Those, who possess a license granted by any other state, can get the permit to work through endorsement. Depending on the state they are licensed in, the procedure would be carried out; it may be online or on papers. Until they are not endorsed, they are allowed to work with a temporary work permit of 120 days.
Reinstating a License
LPNs who didn’t get their license renewed within the time period and their license has lapsed can get their license reinstated. The LPNs working with a lapsed license have to encounter unfortunate consequences. The license can be reinstated by downloading the application form from the website of Kansas Board of Nursing.
- Within Five Years
If the license has lapsed within the past five years, then you are required to submit the application form with a proof of working for 30 hours within last two years, along with the copies of certificates earned at the time of completion of the LPN course.
- Beyond Five Years
If your LPN license has lapsed for more than five years, then submit the application form and fee with any of the following documents.
- License obtained in another jurisdiction during the last five years and a certificate showing completion of 30 contact hours or authorized nursing education obtained within last two years and copies of the certificates indicating completion of the course.
- Evidence of current licensure in another jurisdiction and a proof of working of 30 hours in nursing education within last two years and copies of the certificates indicating completion of the course.
- Submit the certificate obtained by completion of a refresher course, provided by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. The course must be completed before applying for the reinstatement.
Kansas Nursing License Renewal
The license obtained after passing the NCLEX-PN exam expires after 2 years. It has to be renewed in order to continue your practice as an LPN. The license can be renewed by paying a fee of $55. The nurses can apply for license renewal 90 days before the expiration date. Along with this, a continuing education of 30 hours is required prior to license renewal. The license will be mailed within 15 working days.
